Market Recap Stocks rose ahead of the conclusion of the Fed’s two-day meeting with increased optimism about the economy trumping Fed worries.
Crude oil prices surged almost $3 to almost $57, the highest level since Jan. 3. The 5.5% spike was the biggest one-day gain since Hurricane Katrina approached Sept. 19, 2005.
Tech stocks showed strength on word investor Carl Icahn is eying a seat on Motorola’s board. The Coolcat Tech Bubble Survivors Index rose almost 1% and climbed back above its 50-day moving average for the first time since Jan. 17.
The Fed is expected to keep rates unchanged Wednesday.
